RUSS DAVIES: COMPOSER, PRODUCER, SONIC INNOVATOR
British music producer and composer Russ Davies is known for his ability to merge genres and push creative boundaries. Celebrated for his electronic alter-egos Cinnamon Chasers, Abakus, and Aiiso, Russ’s work spans from experimental electronica to modern film score.
Growing up in North London as the son of Dave Davies from The Kinks, Russ was drawn to music at an early age. By 13, he was already experimenting with electronic sounds, using an Amiga500 computer, 8-bit tracking software and Akai samplers, inspired by 90s rave culture, indie rock, and the cinematic intensity of action-horror films. His debut album as Abakus, That Much Closer to the Sun (2004), quickly established him in the psychedelic electronic scene, leading to global tours and remixes for icons like The Orb and Roxy Music.
In 2009, Russ introduced Cinnamon Chasers, a nu-disco and nostalgic electro project. The debut album A Million Miles From Home featured Luv Deluxe, a track that won the SXSW Audience Choice Award, solidifying Cinnamon Chasers as a standout in electronic music. This success paralleled his ongoing work as Abakus, with both projects driving prolific studio sessions and world tours.
In 2016, Russ co-wrote and produced Open Road with his father, and his alias Aiiso signed to Anjunadeep Records, appearing on two #1 iTunes albums.
Russ’s love for storytelling extends beyond music production into film composition, where he seamlessly blends his electronic roots with cinematic soundscapes. His work includes the electronic-orchestral score for Controller by Saman Kesh, as well as the soundtracks for BBC’s War of the Worlds and BBC America’s The Watch.
From genre-defying albums to evocative film scores, Russ Davies continues to craft music that resonates across mediums, connecting deeply with audiences worldwide.
