You can aspire and learn to be a music pioneer and avoid the dark temptation of becoming a bandwagon whore.
This is something I am particularly passionate about as I feel far too many aspiring musicians simply copy the ideas of others in the hope they can replicate a career like that artist. They don't realise that if they commit their energy into originality then they are not only doing more for their personal career but they are also contributing more to the art-form of music itself.
There is a need for writers who dare venture into the unknown of creating original ideas, rather than playing it safe and jumping on the back of others. We need more brave artists; we all need to be more brave artistically.
I’ll be delving deep into this territory in throughout this blog, and also in my online course if you choose to enrole, exploring what it takes to create truly original content, and hope to identify the skills needed to create ideas of the future.
A great deal of musicians in the current market and climate rely heavily on the ideas of others in order to develop their own music without learning how to make original music themselves. This is the area I am committed to, and hope through the techniques I will be offering you to delve deep into the unknown and have the courage, vision and strength to reach for original creative concepts yourself. I'm not going to walk you through step by step how to write a techno track, or downbeat tune, what I will be doing is showing you broad techniques to allow you to spawn and develop original ideas that can be applied to any electronica genre.
BECOME AN INNOVATOR
It's all too easy to follow what is trending and use that same musical framework, and whilst this can in some cases be a good exercise and something you can learn a lot from what I would prefer to focus on is a set of techniques that allow you to break free from this lazy habit and move yourself into the realm of creative originality.
Whilst you might feel productive at first when copying the ideas of others, I feel that unless you are committed to the pursuit of truly original ideas then a long career in the creative arts will be difficult to maintain. The benefits of developing your own original ideas with your unique sound not only gives you bigger chances of a long sustaining career but also greatly improve your odds of producing music that stands out from the onset, far ahead of the curb. I would say 99% of the music we hear today is all sound-alike and it’s a frustrating experience, and originality only seems to be achieved as a collective movement in micro-increments, so why not accelerate this snail race and aim to be an innovator yourself?
Some might argue you can make a moderately successful career copying the ideas of others, but you could also aim for originality instead, and aim higher to become to make seminal and groundbreaking music. This way you can truly stand out as an exceptional artist and make a real difference. I’ve always been committed to the pursuit of genuine originality and I hope through taking this course you will fall in love with the pursuit too.
So now you might be asking how this can be done? Well I discuss many techniques for changing your music production process in my online course. We'll start with re-defining your mindset and perspective on your music process, then move on to learning core composition and production development techniques that faciliate original ideas to be spawned, followed by advanced arrangement techniques and engineering. The principles covered in this course aim to give you all the tools you need for creating original music.
